Broadway Street is the best pedestrian walking spine in Milwaukee. It contains some of the finest historic and contemporary buildings and public spaces in the city. Though the street has achieved a complete and cohesive quality, it still has a few ‘undeveloped’ sites. With that in mind, the focus of project #2 for this studio will be to infill one of those empty sites. We will engage in a professional approach to a development of a crucial site. We will incorporate the Historic Third Ward Design Guidelines in our infill proposals. We will also use Terra Cotta as a primary enclosure material. Though we studied it as a great historic material on Broadway Street, we will now focus our architectural proposals on the application of Terra Cotta as a contemporary material.
